A composite, non-identifying illustration of the practical questions distance can introduce during a divorce.
A composite situation
Consider two people who are establishing separate homes after divorce. One remains where the family has been living, while the other works in another country. Travel, time zones, housing costs, shared property, and a child’s school calendar all affect the practical choices they need to make. This is a composite illustration, not the story of any particular family.
Practical questions participants may explore
- How will two households account for housing, travel, property upkeep, assets, debts, retirement, business interests, recurring expenses, and support?
- What travel rhythm, communication routine, holiday plan, and school-year schedule best fit the family’s actual locations and time zones?
- How will changes in work, income, housing, or a child’s needs be discussed if the original plan becomes difficult to carry out?
- What information does each participant need in order to consider a practical next step?
Why a remote format can help
Remote meetings allow participants to join from their respective locations without adding travel to an already demanding transition. Sessions can be scheduled with time zones in mind and organized around focused financial, household, or family topics. A neutral, participant-led process gives people room to explain the practical realities they are facing and to shape customized arrangements that they can own.
Questions to bring to a Consultation
- Which parts of our household or family routine are most affected by distance?
- What financial or logistical decisions need to be discussed first?
- How can we create a conversation that is workable across our locations and schedules?
