About Remote Family Mediation
A neutral, practical process for families navigating change.
Remote participation can make a structured conversation more accessible for families who live apart, manage demanding schedules, have caregiving or health constraints, or need to meet across regions or countries.

Heidi Cochrane
Founder and Principal Mediator.
With more than 20 years of experience as a professional mediator, including work with families located across different national jurisdictions and international borders, Heidi provides experienced, knowledgeable neutral process support through the financial, logistical, and real-world complexities that can arise when one household becomes two or when a child moves between multiple homes. Her perspective is informed by prior decades of practice as a New York State divorce and family-law trial attorney. In her current role as a professional mediator, she does not provide legal advice or representation; instead, she helps participants organize a respectful conversation and explore customized practical options while each participant obtains independent qualified advice as needed.
A practical, respectful approach
- Careful listening and thoughtful preparation
- A focused, neutral setting in which each participant can be heard
- Practical attention to household, parenting, financial, and logistical concerns
- Flexible remote participation for families facing geographic or other in-person barriers
The mediator does not take sides or make decisions for participants. Each participant remains responsible for their own decisions and may seek independent professional advice whenever they choose.

Important professional limits: Remote Family Mediation provides neutral mediation and process facilitation only. It does not provide legal advice or representation, determine legal rights, obligations, or remedies, select a legal forum, or appear for anyone in court or before an agency.
Families may participate from different locations, including across borders. Each participant remains responsible for obtaining independent advice from a qualified professional as needed.
