Is Neutral Online Mediation a Good Fit?
Short answer: Neutral online mediation may be a useful process when participants want a respectful, voluntary conversation about family matters and can participate freely. Remote Family Mediation offers this remote process for suitable discussions, including when participants live in different places, and within its professional scope.
Signs a neutral process may be worth exploring
- Both participants are willing to speak and listen without expecting the mediator to take a side.
- Each person can decide freely whether to participate and whether to continue.
- The participants want help organizing a conversation, not a decision imposed by someone else.
- Each person understands that they may seek independent professional advice before acting on an important decision.
What the mediator’s role is
A neutral mediator helps participants identify topics, set an agenda, and have an orderly conversation. The mediator does not decide who is right, determine outcomes, or act as a lawyer for either participant.
When mediation may not be appropriate
Mediation may not be appropriate where there are concerns about safety, coercion, abuse, an inability to participate freely, or an urgent need for protection. This practice does not assess emergencies or provide crisis assistance through this website.
Questions a consultation can answer
- How a neutral online process is generally structured.
- Whether the participants’ proposed process appears voluntary.
- Whether the matter appears to be within the practice’s confirmed professional scope.
- What the mediator can and cannot do during the process.
Important limits
Remote Family Mediation does not provide legal advice, legal analysis, or legal representation. The mediator does not select a legal forum or appear for anyone in court or before an agency. Each participant should obtain independent advice from a lawyer qualified in every relevant jurisdiction before acting on a decision or written document.
Website notice: Contacting the practice does not create an attorney-client relationship, a mediator-client relationship, or any representation relationship. Please do not send confidential information, documents, court papers, or a narrative of a dispute through this website.
